Still here.....

Hi ya all ,

Well, we got through the easter holidays and we are still in the game.... Mishelle turned very ill on maundy thursday and got even worse on friday. But as it turned out it looks to have been one of her medicines that made so ill. As is common with cancer-patients, Mishelle have a type of fungus in her mouth/throat. In order to fight this off she recieved a medicine called; Diflucan a common antifungal antibiotic. She has used this medicine earlier with success, so we thought nothing of it. However, in Mishelle's current condition she turned very ill and was having great difficulties breathing. It seems as the Diflucan created a great deal of mucus in her respiratory system which she was unable to cough up. She had breathing stops for as long as 15 seconds at a time and she made a kind of a wheezing/gasping sound. All in all - on friday we thought Mishelle had come to the end of her journey.
Then, Pelle from home nursing care came up with the idea to stop giving her diflucan and see what happened. We also started her on Midazolam ( a milde sedative ) to keep her relaxed. IT WORKED!! Come sunday - Mishelle was in "great" shape ( concidering that she has entered what the doctors call; The terminal phase ).
She was up in my arms and whatched television for a few minutes, she ate a whole chocholate and even had the strenght to speak a few words!! All in all - we have had a couple of wonderful days.
Today however it was back to "normal" with Vomiting and pain in her head. She has spent the day sleeping and tomorrow we will once again increase her morphine patch. Let's hope she will have a better day tomorrow.....

I would also like to say THANK YOU to the nurses and doctores at the childrens departement in Fredrikstad. Thank you for giving us such great support. Thank you for being there when we need you and thank you for taking the time to come home to us and check up on Mishelle!

Ps: The photo was taken sunday, and Mishelle is watching Playhouse Disney on the TV. :o)
